Meet the Forest fan signing about “This Town” - a tribute to Nottingham
Nottingham is a City of creatives, passionate, and proud residents; how can someone emulate these characteristics, and showcase them to not only residents of Nottingham, to remind them how special the City is, but also for those perhaps wanting to learn a bit about the City? Well, Louis Croft did, and did so splendidly - this is his story, and the story of his new EP: “This Town”.
Born in Gamston, Nottingham, Louis is no stranger to the “way” Nottingham is, and what the City represents. A lifelong Forest fan also, he understands just how much sports means to the area - an area encompassing one of the most unique & spectacular sporting landscapes in the country: Two Football League clubs, situated either side of the Trent, and an acclaimed Cricket venue to put the Cherry on the icing on the cake. A superb location for sports, and culture - “This Town” is, in essence, a combination of the two.
Music has been somewhat a way of life for Louis, but this took another step in 2016/17, when Louis was just 17, as he converted his passion for music into a passion for making music, also. His mother a flute teacher, and his household one that “raised him on good music”, it was fair to say, all the elements of creating a musician were present in Louis’s upbringing. Now aged 24, Louis plays in front of a plethora of Forest fans, with those present at the City Ground able to hear his music on the PA system, as heard before the Nottingham Forest vs Brighton game recently.
What is “This Town” all about?
Louis holds no shame in being a ‘born & bred’ Nottingham lad, and this song signifies this love he has for his “town” - the place he has called home for the best part of 21 years. When asked about what “this town” really means to him, Louis said:
“If there’s any message in this song, it’s to be proud, and to love where you’re from - I love my ‘town’, and that came across in my song.”
From humble starts, producing the music in his bedroom, to performing live at venues across the City, the present, and indeed the future, is very bright for one of Nottingham’s upcoming artists.
“I’m a Forest fan, it’s no secret!”
Now, it wouldn’t be an article about Nottingham if I didn’t even mention the football, more specifically, Nottingham Forest, for whom myself & Louis share a keen passion for.
Recalling his earliest memory of being a Forest fan, and a positive one, which is always a bonus for a younger Forest fan, Louis discussed how his step dad, also a keen Forest fan, took him to the City Ground to watch the Reds take on Brighton. The game would be a joyous occasion, as Grant Holt puts two past the Seagulls’ keeper - a brilliant 2-1 win on Trent side, and so Louis’s journey as a Forest fan begun!
It’s fair to say that, despite recent successes, being a Forest fan hasn’t always been so joyous, but those hard times & disappointments made the recent upturn so much richer; a real joy. Given this, it wouldn’t be right for me to not mention present Forest - Louis tells me his favourite player his favourite player, currently, is Morgan Gibbs-White, alluding to Gibbs-White’s “exciting potential”.
His favourite player of his generation, you ask? Cult hero: Radislaw Majewksi. The Polish magician that was so adored by the Forest fanbase. It’s fair to say, alongside good tastes in music, Louis has great tastes in football!
To add to this, Louis has been given the incredible opportunity of performing outside the City Ground this weekend. In Saturday 2nd December, be sure to see him at the new Fan Zone at the City Ground, before Nottingham Forest take on Everton!
